Duncan will challenge you to claim your creativity, to own experience making, and provide practical steps to think differently. Candy Chang is an artist who believes our shared spaces can play a vital role in our emotional health and kinship. Through a series of large-scale projects that combine art with social activism, Candy has encouraged people to engage with public spaces to let their voices be heard. Her interactive art experiences evoke emotion, strengthen communities, and addresses the social isolation that many feel in their work where they put on masks to hide their fears.

Do the Right Thing: A Conversation with Spike Lee

When it comes to experiences, Hollywood certainly knows how to create them. And memorable ones at that. But much like corporate America, the entertainment industry has also been under scrutiny in recent years for a lack of diversity and inclusion – both on and off the screen. Movements like #OscarsSoWhite, #metoo and #timesup have shined a spotlight on the striking differences persons of color and women, for example, face in their professional careers. One long-time critic of this imbalance is Oscar-winning director, producer, writer and actor Spike Lee. He received an Academy Award in 2019 for his movie BlacKkKlansman and was among a historic seven black men and women who were honored at the annual event for their achievements in cinema. Lee’s production company, 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, is also responsible for movies including She’s Gotta Have It, Do the Right Thing, Jungle Fever, Malcolm X, He Got Game, The Original Kings of Comedy, Inside Man and Chi-Raq. Join us for a conversation with filmmaker Spike Lee whose more than 35 films have examined race relations, crime, poverty and politics for the past 25 years. He’ll share his thoughts on these important social issues, his life in the movie business – and likely draw some interesting parallels to the work corporate real estate professionals are tackling to create spaces and places that foster inclusive business cultures and support diverse, multigenerational workforces.

Dr. Nita Mosby Tyler is the Chief Catalyst and Founder of The Equity Project, LLC – an organization designed to support organizations and communities in building diversity, equity and inclusion strategies. She is the former Senior Vice President and Chief Inclusion Officer for Children’s Hospital Colorado – the first African American woman to hold that position in the organizations 100+ year history. Dr. Mosby Tyler, a consultant accredited by the Georgetown University National Center for Cultural Competence, is nationally recognized for her equity work with non-profit, community, government and corporate organizations.
