Most Corporate Real Estate Professionals Say Employees Are Expected In the Office But Not Every Day of the Week; More Than a Third of Corporations Plan To Increase Office Space Over Five Years

May 20, 2022

A new survey conducted by CoreNet Global, the premier association for corporate real estate professionals has found that companies are requiring their employees to come to the office for some part of the week, but very few are mandating that employees be in the office five days a week

The survey was conducted in April-May 2022  and yielded more than 450 responses from all regions including North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Many corporate real estate managers expect their portfolios to grow over the next five years. Thirty-eight percent of the respondents said they planned to increase the amount of office space they are using, while 62 percent predicted a net decrease.

Nearly half the respondents said that their companies were pulling back on remote work and requiring more workers to return to the office.

But not every day: respondents replied as follows when asked  how often employees are required to be in the office on a weekly basis:

  •          Not required on a weekly basis: 29 percent
  •          At least one day per week: 5.6 percent
  •          At least two days per week: 19.42 percent
  •          At least three days per week: 28.4 percent
  •          At least four days per week: 6.3 percent
  •          Five days per week: 11.16 percent
