Student Team from Georgia Tech Wins Global Corporate Real Estate Competition

ATLANTA, GA – NOVEMBER 11, 2021 – A team of students from the Georgia Tech School of Building Construction in Atlanta won the CoreNet Global Academic Challenge, a global competition in which student teams design strategies that address challenges faced by corporate real estate professionals. Finalists competed earlier this week at the CoreNet Global Summit North America in Seattle.

The Academic Challenge, sponsored by IA:Interior Architects, presented the competing “consulting” teams with a realistic scenario:   How can corporate real estate professionals take a leadership role in helping their companies develop an agile ESG strategy that permits the board and management to shift back and forth among short-, medium-, and long-term issues as the changing business environment may require? What will be the lasting impact of the COVID-19 lockdown and the resulting health and safety protocols and practices on the environment and climate change? How will the company turn the conversation about DE&I into measurable actions?

The Academic Challenge is an important step in raising the awareness of the profession and the impact of corporate real estate on the global economy. The competition is designed to attract students from all academic disciplines to tackle key challenges facing the profession, and perhaps more importantly, the challenges facing the enterprises CoreNet Global’s members serve.

The management of corporate real estate is increasingly complex and intertwined with other corporate functions including Human Resources, technology and information systems, the workplace, sustainable environment, finance, site selection and even overall corporate branding.

A strategic priority for CoreNet Global is to strengthen its relationship with academic institutions around the world in order to cultivate a diverse pipeline of talent into the challenging, rewarding career of corporate real estate.

The other finalists included the  De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Fox School of Business at Temple University; Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland served as an alternate.
