The Next Generation of Innovation Spaces

The Next Generation of Innovation Spaces

October 2016

In Philadelphia both the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University are working on creating Innovation Centers and Innovation Zones. Places where the entrepreneurs of today and tomorrow can work to develop innovative products and become cutting edge companies. With close ties to the intellectual knowledge and research activities of these schools these places will provide both the physical environments and the human communities and connections to enable start-ups to commercialize their ideas as they invent the future. The University of Pennsylvania’s 60,000 Square Foot Pennovation Center is opening this summer and has already entered into agreements whereby existing corporations such as Hershey Co. will sit side-by-side with start-ups in incubator environments. Drexel University has announced plans for Schuylkill Yards a 5 million square feet Innovation Zone that will sit next to its main campus that is set to transform Philadelphia’s University City into a neighborhood structured around innovation and collaboration.
