Acoustic Challenges in Modern Office Fit-Outs

Acoustic Challenges in Modern Office Fit-Outs

March 2014

Office fit-outs nowadays rarely contain simply open plan offices, cellular offices and meeting rooms. The modern workplace now combines a variety of uses, including auditoria, cafes and restaurants, quiet rooms, video conferencing and telepresence rooms, business lounges and gyms, not to mention multi-purpose flexible spaces. Each of these uses has its own noise and vibration requirements and inserting these areas into a typical office brings various acoustic challenges. Nicholas Jones, Head of Acoustics at Hilson Moran, examines the potential issues and solutions, and how they have been overcome on recent projects. Nicholas is the leader and founder of the Acoustics department at Hilson Moran. He has wide experience in environmental, architectural and building services acoustics, providing acoustic consultancy on projects of all sizes and sectors worldwide. Nicholas has written numerous acoustics articles for technical publications and has worked for some of the world?s biggest property developers and with some of the world?s most prestigious architects.
