In partnership with Steelcase's Applied Research and Consulting team, Vodafone NL implemented a design strategy for a new mobile working environment. Corporate clients are impressed with the new live mobile environment; the organisation has reduced office space from 16 sqm to 10 sqm per workplace and achieved operational facilities cost savings of 60%. 3  The Empire State Building Energy Retrofit: A Replicable Model

Speakers:
Ernie Shelton, Director for Energy Services & Consulting – EMEA, Johnson Controls, Inc.
Nick Gibbins, Associate Director, Upstream Sustainability Services, Jones Lang LaSalle

The Empire State Building in New York City, one of the world's most iconic structures, is going "green". This landmark project, when completed, will reduce energy costs and carbon emissions by up to 38% - a $4.4 Million USD savings - and over 15 years, 105,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions will be avoided. The owner brought a team together to use the building as a test bench to show that an energy retrofit can be financially justified by the energy cost savings alone.

The panelists will provide different perspectives on how an energy retrofit of an existing building can provide a measurable financial payback to owners and tenants. The team will also discuss ways the building owner engages tenants in the process to reach energy reduction goals and measure tenants' carbon reduction.

Finding an integrated solution that ensures CRE is a full partner in the business can drive positive change through the organisation and deliver best in class performance.

National Australia Group - Europe (NAG Europe) leveraged the opportunities created by the joint venture between EC Harris and Cushman & Wakefield. Moderator:
Michael Graham, Director of Corporate Real Estate, Titanic Quarter
Speakers:
Jose Luis Sanchez-Concha Ibarra, Workplace Solutions Manager - EMEA & India, Nokia
Kathryn Kneller, Senior Manager, WR Communications, Nokia

Large-scale, high-profile workplace change projects provide the greatest opportunity for corporate real estate functions to demonstrate value to the organisation. In the current economic climate, these types of projects have been put "on hold" indefinitely. So what do you do?

At Nokia, the real estate group is focusing their energies on developing their communication processes, tools and skills to equip themselves to manage workplace changes more effectively for when the turnaround comes. They are creating a communications and change plan that addresses the overall organisation's strategy, and links it to workplace solutions. All too often, opportunities to align workplace strategy with business objectives are missed due to resource constraints or a failure to communicate your strategies effectively. This session will show how to step back from looking at projects on a case-by-case basis, and use the time you have now to create new strategies and sell them effectively.

8  Working Beyond Walls
Moderator:
Andrew Burt, International Director, EMEA, Global Workplace Solutions, Johnson Controls
Speakers:
Paul Stansall, Strategic Workplace Adviser, UK Office of Government Commerce
Despina Katsikakis, Chairman, DEGW

"Work is what you do, not a place you go to, and the majority of the next generation of the workforce will be ready and able to work anywhere." This quote, from Sir Gus O'Donnell, the U.K. Cabinet Secretary, sums up what many in Corporate Real Estate believe to be true about the evolution of work and the workplace. The "work anywhere, anytime" generation will have a transformational impact on the physical workplace, and corporations need to think differently about information and communication technology, styles of working, strategic asset management, sustainable design and human resource issues.

These and other topics are the focus of "Working Beyond Walls", the publication form the UK Office of Government Commerce, aimed at modernising the U.K. Civil Services' way of working. DEGW will present a case study on behalf of the UK Department of Children, Schools and Families showing how an entire UK Government Department successfully moved to a non-territorial workplace environment. The principles and strategies behind this approach provide a comprehensive guide for moving ahead into the future of work.
