Real Estate's Impact on Productivity
A blue-chip panel discussed the positive impact real estate strategies and
innovative workplace design can have on employees' productivity. Panelists

Nokia to demonstrate how progressive approaches to real estate can promote
collaboration while reducing occupancy costs. Clockwise from top left,
Cindy Froggatt, Senior Vice President, Jones Lang LaSalle;

Pitney Bowes Featured
in Leader Magazine
Pitney Bowes' Stamford, Conn., headquarters renovation received a five-page spread in CoreNet Global's March/April 2008 Leader magazine. The piece, co-authored by Chapter Co-Chair Maureen Fahy, Pitney Bowes' Vice President, Global Real Estate, and Jim Ryan, Pitney Bowes' Manager, Special Projects, highlights the project's environmental and technological innovations. The renovation was the subject of a chapter Real Advantage workshop last September (scroll down for details).

Real Advantage Workshop:
Ins and Outs of Tax Incenti ves

Ken Hunter of PricewaterhouseCoopers led a Feb. 26 Real Advantage workshop on economic incentives for site selection. Hunter, PWC's National Practice Leader for Site Selection, Credits and Incentives Solutions, outlined the types of incentives generally available. He offered recommendations on how to align real estate with other corporate stakeholders to best take advantage of those incentives. Pitney Bowes hosted the standing-room-only event at its Shelton, Conn., facility.

The Hartford Hosts Real Advantage
Webcast on Site Selection
The Connecticut/Westchester chapter's final Real Advantage workshop of 2007 took the form of a
Webcast, which The Hartford hosted on Dec. 13. Although a winter storm limited the turnout at The Hartford, attendees were able to participate over the Web (and a conference call) from their own computers. CB Richard Ellis' Phoenix-based Labor Analytics Group presented its "Workforce Longevity Analysis." The analytical tool is designed to help end users identify the best local markets for operations such as call centers, back-office functions and manufacturing, based on demographic factors, wage rates and the competitive environment in those markets.

*********************** Chapter bonds with CoreNet Benelux
Connceticut/Westchester chapter board member Sandra Johnson, joined a Connecticut and Massachusetts contingent in Amsterdam to mark Northwest Airlines’ July 1 inaugural flight from Connecticut’s Bradley International Airport to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The event united senior CoreNet Global members from the Connecticut/Westchester and Benelux chapters. The latter comprises corporate real estate leaders from Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
Business, academic and government leaders made up the 75-member U.S. delegation, which included Connecticut Lieutenant Governor Michael Fedele and Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal. The group spent three days meeting with business leaders from the Netherlands.
“These meetings were an important first step in forging relationships and exploring opportunities that could benefit both regions,” said Johnson, who is Vice President and Business Development Officer, MetroHartford Alliance.

Pitney Bowes' Maureen Fahy
Named Chapter Co-Chair
The Connecticut/Westchester chapter has named Maureen Fahy chapter Co-chair, effective August 1. Maureen is Vice President, Global Real Estate, for Stamford-based Pitney Bowes.
Maureen succeeds Rich Guralnick, Senior Broker at H. Pearce Commercial Group in North Haven. Rich has served as chapter Co-chair since 2004 and has been a member of the chapter’s executive committee since 2002. Karen Odlum, Real Estate Strategist at Aetna in Hartford, will remain the chapter’s other Co-chair.
Maureen’s service as chapter Co-chair brings a second end-user executive to the chapter’s leadership team. She manages a 10 million-square-foot global real estate portfolio and is responsible for real estate acquisition and disposition, facility management and food services.
With that perspective, Maureen will add another end-user point of view to the chapter’s program planning and membership recruitment. Moreover, since she is based in Stamford, Maureen will also help to heighten the chapter’s presence and support our efforts to add new members, sponsors and Real Advantage partners in Fairfield and Westchester Counties.
“This is a great opportunity for me personally and I am honored to be asked to serve in this capacity,” said Maureen, who has been a CoreNet Global member since 1997 (and a chapter member since 2004). “Our chapter has accomplished a great deal over the past few years, and I want to do my part to make it even more of a strategic resource for our members.”
