The 'C' In CRE Stands for Collaborative: One Toyota Team Approach

Toyota’s new, two million square foot North American Headquarters for the world's largest automaker was conceived, programmed, designed and executed on a fast track schedule. This was made possible by embracing a collaborative team with divergent backgrounds and expertise: the Toyota Corporate Real Estate team in partnership with their developer, KDC, their architect and designer, Corgan, and furniture provider, Steelcase. The goal for "One Toyota” was explored through the key themes of timeline, team structure, vision, relocation and reorganization. The One Toyota Campus resulted in one centralized, shared headquarters campus in Plano, TX, while being respectful of other One Toyota activities and a corporate reorganization initiative.

Key Takeaways:

  • Gain insights into the collaborative approach and ˜flex schedule” that was utilized to design the project prior to the finalization of the corporate reorganization.
  • Deepen your understanding of how the fast track schedule of the project was developed and how decision making was managed to meet the schedule.
  • Gain an appreciation of the importance of change management and considerations associated with consolidation, relocation and reorganization and how project design decisions were messaged to Toyota’s team members.
