Contribution on behalf of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) by Jen Kuok, member of the GBCA Marketing Committee, and National Manager- Knowledge Systems, Colliers International. The Green Building Council of Australia undertook to examine the business case for green commercial buildings in Australia by reviewing the latest international information and local case studies. The Green Building Council's mission is to develop a sustainable property industry for Australia and drive the adoption of green building practices through market-based solutions. Building on international case studies and examples of the business case for green commercial buildings, this report seeks to detail the financial and social benefits of green commercial buildings to the owner, manager, developer, investor and financier, tenant, and the community in an Australian context by incorporating Australian research and case studies of green developments. It also examines a number of challenges and barriers to green commercial buildings in Australia. Finally, the report identifies a range of actions that could provide a way forward for industry and government to drive the transition to green commercial office buildings in Australia.
