Jeff Elie with Kaplan, Inc. shared a presentation about Kaplan and their approach to real estate and location strategy. Kaplan has 500 locations and the real estate portfolio numbers roughly 5.6 million square feet. 80 years ago the company began as a test prep company but the company has been diversifying its service offerings since 1997. Today, the test prep segment accounts for 21% of all Kaplan business. As a for-profit company, Kaplan faces unique challenges including more stringent regulations than non-profit universities.
