Strip Malls Provide Sites For New Mixed-Use Developments

As the nation continues to face affordable housing challenges created by population growth and diminishing land resources, innovative, yet practical solutions are needed. This is what led The Planning Center of Costa Mesa, CA to develop its "suburban village" concept. It entails converting marginal strip malls into new mixed-use communities that includ apartments or condominiums, shops, offices and parks. The concept has gained considerable attention and recognition, including an award from the Building Industry Association.
